Welcome to our Fairwood Family!

At Fairwood, we believe in our motto of learning, caring, and sharing to support our school mission of optimal learning, personal growth and a life-long love of learning for each and every child. We know that when we complete our mission, we will realize our vision of every student, no matter what, being successful in their future college, career, and their community.

Learning

One of our school chants is, “What are we here for?” “Learning!” “What do we believe?” “We WILL achieve!” Learning is a life-long journey and every step we take PreK-6^th grade here is crucial to students’ success on that journey. We have high expectations for our students and know that each student has enormous potential to learn and grow. As a team of professional educators, it is our responsibility to ensure that every student is being provided with rigorous learning opportunities and making progress in their learning. Our staff is highly collaborative and works together to continuously learn and improve ourselves so that our students receive a premiere learning experience here at Fairwood.  

Caring

I am so proud to be a part of such a genuinely caring family at Fairwood elementary! Our code of conduct for Respect, Responsibility, and Safety and our daily school pledge reminds us how important it is to be here for each other. We have an amazing community of staff and families who are truly here to provide the care and support each student needs to be successful. Our students are community and global citizens, so along with academics, we teach social-emotional skills that support caring, empathy, compassion, collaboration and problem solving.  We also provide programs like Green Schools that support caring for our environment, Meaningful Jobs around the school, and PTSA sponsored programs including Art and Drama just to name a few. We have a dedicated PTSA that partners with us in caring for our students by supporting many programs and opportunities for our students.   

Sharing

Two-way communication, partnership and collaboration are critical to the success of our work. Our staff collaborate and share with each other daily. We teach our students that there are many ways to share that support their success. Our students are more successful when our school shares and builds relationships with families and partners with our community. To communicate with us, you can follow us on Facebook, use phone, email, or Class Dojo for enrolled families. There are many ways also for families and community to partner with us including joining our PTSA, our School Improvement Team, our Positive Behavior Support Team, volunteering in the school, staying in touch with your child’s teachers, and others. We welcome your involvement!

Visitors/Volunteers/Walking students to class

• We are a family school, and we want our families involved as much as possible. At the same time, your children’s safety is our number one priority, so we have procedures in place to support school security.
• Sign-in is required to enter our campus whenever students are present on campus, from 8:25- 3:25. If you want to walk your student to class in the morning door, you are required to sign-in at the front prior to doing so. In the first few days of school, we will have staff on hand outside to sign you in and provide you with a visitor’s pass. Anyone without a visitor’s pass will be asked to go to the front entrance to sign-in. After the first few days of school, you will need to go into the front office to sign-in as a visitor.
• Volunteers complete the VIPS application online and need to be cleared prior to volunteering within the school. We will be able to have some volunteers in the building but will limit the amount of people within the classroom spaces to ensure that we have 6ft distancing between adults and students. Masks are always required within the school building. Teachers will reach out to families about opportunities to volunteer.

Arrival/Dismissal

• If driving, drop-off and pick-up is in our south “kiss ‘n drop” loop parking lot only. Pull fully up to the white curb to drop-off safely. Staff will be on hand to receive students and to assist with dismissal. Follow the grade level sign directions to pull up to the line for pick-up. RIGHT turn only out of our parking lots during arrival/dismissal times.
• Bus/Daycare drop-off/pick-up and visitor parking only is in the front upper lot.
• Preschool/special education/handicapped parking only in the lower north lot.
• We encourage you to release your student(s) to our staff to assist with arrival. If you feel you need to walk your child to class, be sure to sign-in as a visitor (as above). We will have several staff on hand the first weeks of school to support students in getting to their classroom. If your child is having any difficulties with separation, please let us know and we can help with that.

COVID-19 Mitigation

• The safety of our students is our top priority. We will continue to have procedures in place to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. We will have an isolation room and continue to follow the WA Dept of Health guidelines. We will contact families to pick-up their child when they experience symptoms. Please see the district website Return Safely webpage for additional information.
• Masks are optional and welcome to be worn all students, staff, visitors/volunteers when in the building. Masks will be provided for students who want one and do not have a mask or need a replacement during the day. Preschool special education staff who work more closely with students will wear masks.
• Physical distancing is not currently required in August 2022, however students, staff, and volunteers are encouraged to monitor their distance to support mitigation.
• Ventilation is at max fresh air, and we have high filtration. Please be sure your children dress for the weather as though they are outside since fresh air is maximized at this time.
• Students will attend PE, music, and library in those spaces.
• Recess will be outside unless the weather is extreme/unsafe, so please dress for all weather.  
• Breakfast/Lunch will be spread out in our large, well ventilated, multi-purpose room and with We will have 4 lunch times to spread out students. Meals are back to being pay for 22-23, so  please complete the application for meal benefits if you think you might qualify. Visit our Free & Reduced Priced Meals page for more information.
• Hand washing will be frequent in the classrooms, and we have hand sanitizer in the classrooms and stations set up around the building. Students will sanitize in/out of all rooms.
