  • Welcome to Kent Lab Academy!

While we are settling into our brand-new building, I'd like to respond to a question that might be on your mind. What exactly is a laboratory school? For the past 100 years, thanks to researcher John Dewey, the lab school model is used around the world and is a partnership between a school and university to explore and implement innovative practices in education. At Kent Lab, we have the privilege of partnering with the University of Washington Tacoma. Our lab model not only enables us to benefit our students through innovation, but we also share our learning with the rest of the Kent School District--so everybody benefits. Our mission is to innovate for all learners, and we strive to live up to our school core values, EPIC – empowered, persevering, people of integrity, and committed to community.

We are a truly unique school in the district. Kent Lab serves students ages 8 – 18 at ten grade levels including elementary, middle, and high school—all on one campus. Our grades 3 – 8 model is inquiry-driven, which means students get to explore ideas, ask questions, and come up with solutions. Our middle and high school students learn through a block schedule that increases learning opportunities and promotes on-time graduation. All our students benefit from a cohesive STEAM focus (in science/technology, engineering, art and math) in grades 3 – 12. Through a compassionate approach to personalized learning, we are nurturing hearts and minds at Kent Lab.

Thank you for visiting our website!
