New School Boundaries for 2023-2024 School Year

  • Interactive Boundary Maps

The Kent School District is implementing new school boundaries for the 2023-2024 school year. This is an opportunity to balance enrollment districtwide and continue to build positive school cultures that nurture and inspire student success. Our school leaders are excited about this opportunity and are eagerly preparing to welcome incoming students. This includes hosting an open house prior to the special transfer window for families impacted by the boundary changes. This will be a time for students and families to learn more about their new boundary school.

The boundary changes, in most cases, will reduce time students spend on buses; remove most of our students from learning in portables; and take enrollment pressure off our highest impacted schools and communities. With these?benefits in mind for the entire school district, we are excited to communicate the following steps in our boundary implementation process:

    • New boundaries are based on your physical home address in the boundary area for each school.
    • Every family will receive letters with their students’ placement for the 2023-2024 school year. Multilingual families will receive additional communication based on their language preference in Skyward.
    • There will be a special transfer request window in January, specifically for students and families impacted by the boundary changes. This opportunity will occur before all other transfer windows open.
    • We will work to accommodate transfer requests as much as we are able, however, there is no guarantee a transfer will be granted.
    • Notification of in-district transfer approval/denial will be communicated in February of 2023.

    Inclusive Education

Beginning in the 2023-2024 school year, the boundary committee has recommended adding several programs at all levels in several schools, ensuring that our students have the opportunity to access those programs in their boundary school or in their feeder strand. The boundary committee believes moving forward with these recommendations is best for our students, families, and schools.

    Find Your New Boundary School

School Attendance Boundaries

  • 2022 Boundary Committees Created

In the spring of 2022, three boundary committees were convened to conduct a school attendance boundary review process districtwide to support student success, help balance enrollment, and provide equitable educational programing. View a timeline of the process.

Boundary Change Review Committee focus: reviewing the previously proposed boundary changes from last winter.

Middle School Model Committee?focus: creating a sixth, seventh, and eighth grade model that is inclusive for all students and families. The committee will make recommendations on all aspects of moving all district middle school students to a sixth grade through eighth grade model.

Outreach Plan and Communication Committee? focus: creating a communication and support plan for students and families impacted by boundary changes, as well as managing all communication work with our community.

After the committees complete their objectives, a comprehensive boundary change plan will be created and brought to the school board for approval in the fall of 2022. See boundary committee updates and meeting minutes posted on the committee's page and general boundary change updates below.
