March 15, 2023 from 6:00 PM -7:30 PM at all Kent School District Middle Schools  

Current Sixth grade students and their families are invited to visit the middle school they are assigned to for the 23-24 school year. During this event students and their families will get to tour the school, learn about elective choices, understand what choices exist for athletics and activities and find out about what makes their school special. Families will also learn how they can become an integral part of the school community.  

March 22, 2023 from 6:00 PM -7:30 PM at all Kent School District Middle Schools  

Current Fifth grade students and their families are invited to visit the middle school they are assigned to for the 23-24 school year. During this event students and their families will get to tour the school, learn about elective choices, understand what choices exist for athletics and activities and find out about what makes their school special. Families will also learn how they can become an integral part of the school community.  

March 23 – March 31, 2023 

Counselors/Administrators from the middle Schools will be visiting elementary schools during the above time period to inform students about their choices for electives at the middle school. Elective Courses are the non-required classes (examples art, band, orchestra, technology, etc.). Access to information about electives will also be on the district website shortly before this date so that families can help their child with this selection. 

March – June, 2023   

During the spring all 5th and 6th grade students will be invited to participate in a Minecraft Challenge that is specifically designed to help acquaint them to middle school and to capture student voice on how to make their schools a more inclusive environment for all students. The students will be designing their Minecraft Challenge within a school that is patterned after the middle school they are assigned to attend.  

May – Day and Time to Be Determined 

In addition to information being shared at the Welcome to Seventh Grade and Welcome to Sixth Grade nights the district will hold a special virtual event sometime in May. This will be another opportunity for families to get information and learn about the requirements for their child participating in these activities.  

June 6, 2023 

Current Sixth Grade students will participate in a field trip to the middle school they will be attending. Students will have the opportunity to visit their new school while school is in session. They will tour the campus, participate in activities to get to know their new classmates, eat lunch in the cafeteria, ask questions of current middle school student leaders and meet key staff members.  

June 8, 2023

August 23, 2023  

Welcome to Middle School Orientation Sixth/Seventh Grade students will start at the regular school time where they will participate in a morning of events that will help them better get acquainted with their new school. They will participate in games and activities with their new classmates, tour the school to understand where their classes are located, practice skills like opening a locker and work with current middle school student leaders to better understand middle school routines. To facilitate this orientation Eighth grade students will start 3 hours late on the first day of school only.
