Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT)

  • Vendors Must Provide a Statement for Online Services

    Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) is a vendor-generated statement, using the required template, that provides relevant information on how a vendor’s product or service claims to conform to the Section 508 standards. In general, vendors should generate a VPAT whenever they develop online products or services.

    In each VPAT, the vendor is expected to make specific statements, in simple understandable (recommended) language, about how their product or service meets the requirements of the Section 508 standards; section by section, and paragraph by paragraph.

    The following key requirements must be met for all online services:

    • All vendors providing online services to the Kent School District are required to submit a completed VPAT form for each service licensed by the District. A generic Section 508 statement by a vendor is not adequate.
    • All VPAT documentation must be certified by an independent accessibility certification authority with bona fides to conduct such work.
    • All online services are required to comply with Section 508 standards, including the  and the for web-based content, except when doing so would impose a fundamental alteration or undue burden.
    • If an online software or service must be procured by the District and is not accessible, the District will identify other methods for providing equally effective alternate access prior to purchase, adoption, or contract renewal. Online software or services adopted by the Kent School District will have accessibility verified during the procurement and renewal processes.
