Awale Farah

  • Meet Vice President Farah

    Awale Farah is originally from Somalia and came to the U.S. in 1984 as a teenager. He went to the United States because of an American Peace Core volunteer. Awale's education includes having a degree in Computer Science and an M.A. in Strategic Intelligence and Analysis. He is currently a candidate to receive a doctoral of Law and Policy at Northeastern University. Awale is married, and he and his wife have four children: two girls and two boys. All of Awale's children have attended and graduated from schools within Kent School District. He has lived in Kent since 2003.

    Awale has worked for companies such as Boeing and AT&T as an Engineer for 25 years, in various roles, including a position in management. In 2018, Awale chose to take an early retirement and dedicate his life towards giving back and looking at how he can be a force for change in his community.

    His community work consists of being a former president of Kiwanis Kent, a former board member of Children's Therapy Center, a former board member of Greater Kent Historical Society, a former board member of Community in Schools, a volunteer for Living Well Kent. In addition, Director Farah has previously tutored math students in 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10th grades in Kent School District.

    When Awale worked for Boeing, he organized soccer for youth. Additionally, he was a registered mentor for Kent School District. Awale hopes to continue inspiring youth to achieve any goal they set for themselves, specifically in pursuing careers in the technical fields.
